Metro Lines in Pune

Pune is growing rapidly. And the traffic is growing even more rapidly. The Metro lines are being built but we need to plan for the next phases now. Demand for the Metro is there (see the successes of the Metro in Delhi, Hyderabad, etc). What is needed is more lines.

We propose the following lines to be considered and DPRs made.

1) Extension of Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar line to Kondhwa
This line can be extended via Maldhakka, along Dr Ambedkar Rd, to Camp, along East Street, meeting the proposed Nanded-Hadapsar line at Pulgate, towards Kondhwa along Parvati Rd and Kondhwa Rd till Yewalewadi.

2) Extension of PCMC - Swargate line to Shivapur
This line ca be extended underground to Katraj Bus Depot and then further underground to Khed-Shivapur. This will serve the southern side of Pune. It can come overground once it passes under the hill behind Katraj.

3) Nanded-Swargate-Pulgate-Hadapsar
This line is the most important. Traffic is bad on both Sinhagad Road and Pune Solapur Road. This metro line will help a lot of citizens living along this line. This line can be built on the banks of the canal or the canal that runs from Khadakwasla to Swargate to Pulgate to Fatimanagar and onwards on Pune Solapur Road. The canal can be converted to a closed pipeline, this will ensure that water is not polluted or stolen. As it is State Govt property, land acquisition should not be an issue. Plus property development near stations will benefit the State Govt.

4) Inner Metro Ring
This line can be built along the proposed High Capacity Mass Transit Route of the PMC. A few modifications can be done to align this route for maximum coverage with other metro routes. This will ensure movement of people without increasing the vehicular pollution in the city.

5) Alandi-Vishrantwadi-Pune Station- Rasta Peth - Gultekdi
This line can start from Alandi Temple in the north, all the way down to Vishrantwadi, to Sangamwadi where it can cross the river to reach the other bank at Tadiwalla Rd, then along Tadiwalla Rd to meet at Pune Railway Station, across the railway tacks, along Sanjay Gandhi Rd, along JN Road till Gangadham Chowk.

6) Shivane-Warje-MhatreBridge-City-KP-Mundhwa-ManjriBudruk
This line can start at Shivane, on NDA road to Warje, then on Karve Road till Dahanukar Colony, along the canal till Mhatre Bridge, across the river to Vaikunth, where it can go underground, meeting the Mandai Metro station, then runs under the city till it reaches Bund Garden Metro Station from where it can run along North Main Road, Mundhwa Road, Ghorpadi Road and Manjari Road.

7) Dhayari-Narhe-Katraj-Kondhwa-Phursungi
This line can start from Dhayari, to Narhe, along Narhe-Ambegaon Rd to Katraj Bus Depot, along Katraj-Kondhwa Rd, along Kondhwa-Hadapsar Bypass Rd, to Manterwadi, along Solapur-Mumbai Bypass Rd to Phursungi.

8) Ring Rail
This line should be built along with the Metro Ring Road that is proposed around Pune. It can be built in phases along with the ring road phases. The benefit would be that the periphery areas of Pune metro would get connectivity with their neighbouring areas.

The above lines will cover a large proportion of the city and help redefine mobility for the citizens of Pune Metro region. Savings in fuel and time will be a bonus.
